The Oregon Cancer Ski Out is a two-day event for skiers and snowboarders that combines fun, competition, and fundraising with a unique racing format designed to let even novice skiers or snowboarders participate in the fight against cancer. Saturday dinner and auction at the Mt. Hood Oregon Resort and ski/snowboard race Sunday at Mt. Hook Meadows.
Each year teams of 4 compete for prizes at Mt. Hood Meadows, in a race that rewards consistency and teamwork rather than individual speed. Volunteer celebrity and professional coaching staff are on hand throughout the race, coordinating teams and assisting with professional advice and instructions.
Funds are raised through corporate sponsorships, team entry fees, participants voluntarily raising Bucks to Buck Cancer, a combination of silent and oral auctions, and the ever-popular Cowboy up for Cancer dinner at Mt. Hood Oregon Resort. Since it began in 1988, the Oregon Cancer Ski Out has raised over $1,500,000 for its beneficiaries. In addition, over 400 people take part in the Ski Out each year, many of whom have participated in this event since its inception.
Each year, the event has seen increased participation, public awareness, and corporate recognition and involvement. The event’s success, to date, is largely due to the strong support it has received from local corporations and individuals who want to participate in a fun event that makes a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.
